Marco da Anta Menhir

Marco da Anta Menhir

The menhir, built with big granite, traces date from the Neolithic period (4.500-2.500 B.C.).

It is located in “Santa Locaia” hill, 373 metres above sea level, between Loureda and Erboedo areas, next to an old road on the “Anllóns” upper basin. The first traces date from the Neolithic period (4.500-2.500 B.C.).

The menhir, built with big granite, measures 205 centimetres in height. A line with a thickness of four centimetres might be watched on a quartz vein and it was used to make a low neckline on the west side. Four wedges are kept in sight.

This carving is seen as a phallic representation. By the way, “A Pedra do Ghicho” has a strong sexual connotation in local customs.

This is the only menhir which is still stands throughout  “A Costa da Morte” and it was mentioned by the first time in 1920, in the book “Geografía General del Reino de Galicia”  by Mr Carré Aldao.
